The Mask

Michael Jones

I searched your face in wonder
But could never name the name
Of the faceless person looking back at me
The hidden mask of shame

I sought a heart connection
Forever joined inside
I did not expect perfection
But I wish you didn’t hide

I loved every part of you
That you would let me see
But you hid the deepest parts in shame
In prison, never free

Like yours, my heart is broken
And I’m the easy cause
But behind the face of beauty
Lies a mask of shame
Not free, but lost

I’ll always love you dear one
And wonder what if I
Could connect with you behind the mask
Darkly lurking behind your eyes
